Solar Skill Training Modules

Course content of PV Solar Installation training has total of five study modules. These include 

1. Basic Electricity with module code SNCS-BE; 

2. PV Solar Foundation Level - module code SNCS-PVF;

3. PV Solar Entry Level 1 - module code SNCS-PV001;

4. PV Solar Level 2 (Intermediate Level) - module code SNCS-PV002; and

5. PV Solar Level 3 - module code SNCS-PV003

Module Name: Basic Electricity 

Module Code:  SNCS-BE

Training Overview:

Studying the basics of electricity will give Trainee the insight into the essential components of electricity and their effects on electric circuits. This foundation course is designed to teach beginners electricity principles & the behavior of DC and AC circuits.

Even if the trainee has no prior knowledge of electricity and wants a basic understanding of the subject and its essential elements, this basic course will put them through, helping to unravel the doubts of what electricity is all about and will open a world of career opportunities in this and its related fields, like Solar Energy installation, being introduced here.

Entry Requirements:

Minimum O’level and below; Diploma or Degree; Use of English language, numerical skills.

Tools/Materials:

Writing materials, calculator, 32GB flash drive, laptop (if obtainable), PPE, digital multimeter, earth tester, battery tester; electric tool kit, energy meter, masonry tools; project board, resistor, capacitor, inductor, etc.

Learning Outcome:

Upon completion of this module the Trainee should be able to demonstrate basic knowledge of electricity, apply ohm’s 1aw, measure voltage, current, and power, read test meters; identify voltage, current, and resistance in circuits, and apply Safety procedures;

Should be able to understand basics of PV’s and identify various components of solar power system.

A certificate of achievement (CoA-BE) will be awarded upon successful completion of the Basic Electricity training.

CoA-BE is non-accredited qualification, but does serve as proof of fast track skill development learning. Having achieved SNCS-BE learning targets the trainee can progress on to SNCS-PVFL’ training based on their fulfilment of the entry requirements.

Module NameFoundation Level

Module Code: (SNCS-PVF)

Training Overview:

The training is to help non-technical People to understand how PV Solar works. Advanced calculations are not needed. Hence, getting the trainees to be prepared to enter level 1 training program. This group will be taught basic knowledge of solar power system along with applicable technologies; Trainee will be taught safety measures in operating and handling solar power equipment, the merits and demerits on the environment. Industrial health and safety will be introduced on this course

Entry Requirements:

Minimum O’level and below with electrician’s experience; Or CoA-BE; Or Diploma Or Degree;

Use of English language; Numerical reasoning skills is mandatory.


Tools/Materials:

Writing materials; 1 rim A4 printing paper; audio/video recorder on smart phone; handheld calculator; set of screwdrivers; multimeter, Etc. Refer to detailed tool listing.   


Learning Outcome:

Upon completion of this module the Trainee should be able to identify and understand functions of various parts of basic solar system on drawings and in practice; should be able to demonstrate wire sizing principles for solar installation, fabrication processes; and explain the importance of Safety Regulations in work environment.

Module NameLevel One


Module Code: SNCS-PV001


Training Overview:

This SNCS-PV001 level training is the basis of a successful career as a solar PV system installation professional. Successful completion of SNCS-PV001 enables participant to progress on to level-2 topics of the solar installation training, and is prerequisite to the advanced courses. The SNCS-PV001 training is a follow up for the participants who take the Foundation (SNCS-PVF) entry route.

This group requires basic knowledge of computer, but not mandatory. Trainee will be taught basic design principles and installation and will be able to install a simple solar-battery based system and learn safety procedures in work environment

Entry Requirements:

Proof of Foundation level (CoA-PVF certificate) knowledge; Or Advanced electrician’s knowledge, Or

Diploma Or Degree; Use of English language; Numeracy skill is mandatory

Screwdrivers set, multimeter, testers, laptop (if obtainable); writing materials; 1 rim A4 printing paper, 1 hardcover workshop logbook; scientific calculator, etc.

Learning Outcome:

Upon successful completion of SNCS-PV001 learning targets, trainees should be able to demonstrate the functioning of a basic solar power system; the roles that the ancillary components play in the system; install a simple solar power project; apply basic communication skills and follow the safety regulations for work environment

Module NameLevel Two


Module Code: SNCS-PV002


Training Overview:

The Level Two skill training will take trainees through design and installation of PV power systems at professional level. By completing the training, trainee will be prepared to get into the solar installation industry as a competent PV installer, making them employable.

This group requires knowledge of computer, but not mandatory. Level Two trainee shall be trained on sizing and installation of battery-based PV solar system, with the integration of switching and safety units; and shall be taught technical communication skills. Trainee will learn the safety procedures at work places; and will be thought basic business processes.


Entry Requirements:

Proof of Level 1 (CoA-PV001 certificate) knowledge; Or Advance Electrician’s knowledge; Or Diploma or Degree; Use of English language;

Numeracy skill is mandatory.


Tools/Materials:

Writing materials, logbook; a digital multimeter, 32GB USB 2.0 flash drive, calculator, a laptop (if obtainable); multimeter, cable cutter, testers, set of screwdrivers, pliers, wire stripper, hammer; hacksaw, safety kit, etc.

Learning Outcome:

Upon successful completion of SNCS-PV002 learning targets, the trainee should be able to design, install, maintain a complete battery-based solar project, applying the technical and business communication skills learnt.

The trainees, at this level, should be able to appreciate understanding of integration of solar in building construction.

CoA-PV002 is non-accredited qualification, but should serve as a proof of fast track skill development learning. Having achieved SNCS-PV002 learning targets the trainee can progress on to ‘Level Three’ course based on their fulfilment of the entry requirements

Module Name: Level Three

Module Code: SNCS-PV003


Training Overview:

The Level Three skill training will focus on general operation and maintenance of PV solar power system. Trainee is expected to have attained prior technical experience, or must have duly covered SNCS-PV002 learning targets. The training will enable the participant to attain Maintenance Technician status, in which the use of advanced maintenance tools will be taught. Starting and testing procedures, troubleshoot and the maintenance requirements for residential and the commercial applications will be covered. Trainee will learn safety procedures at work and communication skills


Entry Requirements:

Proof of Level 2 (CoA-PV002 certificate) knowledge; Or Diploma /Degree

Use of English language; Numeracy skill is mandatory.


Tools/Materials:

Writing materials, logbook; a digital multimeter, 32GB USB 2.0 flash drive, calculator, a laptop (if obtainable); multimeter, cable cutter, testers, set of screwdrivers, pliers, wire stripper, hammer; hacksaw, safety kit, etc.

Learning Outcome:

Upon successful completion of SNCS-PV003 learning targets, the trainee should be able to apply the technical communication skills for troubleshooting, maintenance and coordination of solar system in compliance with NEC engineering and OSHA safety standards.
